I made my way to Smith Point just after Sunrise yesterday to see how the beach fared after the “blizzard” that wasn’t.

If you missed  images and video taken during the storm click here.

From what I could tell, the beach fared pretty well but the soft sand Fire Island is known for seems to have been replaced by a dark, hard and rocky surface.

The waves appeared even bigger than during the height of the storm with  offshore gusts over 30 m.p.h blowing the faces off the waves.

Unlike the day before I had my favorite surf lens, the Sigma 150-600mm.

The shots below were taken in front of the Fire Island National Seashore visitor center at Smith Point Beach.

I also took some natural sound video of the waves, click here to check that out.
