I captured these images Wednesday night starting in Brightwaters as a huge shelf cloud moved in from the north.

At the same time, another cell moved in quickly from the west.Trying to say out of the rain, I quickly headed over to Robert Moses State Park for a better view.

When passing over the Fire Island Inlet Bridge, the combined storms formed a shelf cloud that covered the entire horizon.  Note the swirling dirt devil at the foot of the water tower.

I was able to get a few more images before the rain closed everything in.  Scroll down.
