Tropical Storm Jose is now slowly moving away to the Northeast and while expected to meander offshore right into the weekend, most of the impacts as far as rain, wind and high tides have passed.   Long period swells and rip current risks should persist through the weekend but the violent surf of the past few days had settled down by the end of the day.

The skies finally cleared over Smith Point just before sunset, providing some great light on some still impressive sets of waves.

After leaving the beach I was treated to a brilliant light show over the Great South Bay in Brookhaven about 45 minutes after sunset on page 3
