The Smith Point Outer Beach, open to 4×4 vehicles (with permit), is a beautiful stretch of Eastern Fire Island that covers about 5 miles between Smith Point and Moriches Inlet. I checked it out Saturday morning, starting on the west end near the campground area and taking Burma road all the way to the inlet and back along the beach. As you will see, the dredging work continues, moving sand from the inlet to Smith point to the west. It was supposed to be finished by November 1st but it is still in full operation. I will have an update later in the week.
