The entire tri-state area was under a wind advisory on Monday afternoon with gale force winds out of the west.   Before I left work I checked the Fire Island and Beyond Marina Cam and saw some serious whitecaps and dramatic clouds racing by and saved some of the video below as the Davis Park Ferry approached below.

After dinner I took a ride to Smith Point Beach, knowing there would be some decent surf before sunset.  Winds were gusting up to 40 mph at both Islip and Brookhaven Airports around the same time and it made for a wild scene on the beach.  Luckily for my equipment, the sand was still wet from the recent rain so even though it was blowing down the beach, it stayed fairly low as you can see in the video below.

I also attempted some slow motion video but could not keep the camera steady in the wind.

Once I was done filling my clothes with sand I took some shots of the surf close to the ocean and then from the top of the Fire Island National Seashore Visitor Center building that provides a nice elevated view down the beach.
