On the 8th anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, I checked out Old Inlet.  Conditions were perfect with calm winds and excellent water clarity.  While we haven’t had any Tropical Storms this Fall, a few smaller storms in October have once again caused some significant changes to the inlet.  The big sand spits on both sides of the inlet have been pushed further into the bay.  The West spit has been cut into two pieces with a channel flowing through.  You can also clearly see how the ocean swept over both sides as well.   There is a also a lot of sand building up just outside the inlet.

Fire Island and Beyond has built up a huge library of Old Inlet over the years, click here to check it out.

I also uploaded high-resolution images on my other website to check out the images below Full Screen here.

There was also a lot of new erosion down the beach toward Bellport, I will follow up with another vide and gallery later.
