On Monday, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company positioned the Illinois, a 220 foot long Cutter Suction Dredge, just inside Shinnecock Inlet. Once the pipe is put together and positioned it will start pumping appx 600,000 cubic yards onto the beach just west of the Shinnecock Inlet jetty to shore up the beach that was severely eroded after several storms in the Fall. The main focus in the section in front of the commercial dock where the ocean breached the dune and jeopardized Dune Road. The video and images on the 4 pages below were taken Monday evening.
