Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, recently awarded a 10.7 million dollar contract, is getting ready to start pumping sand onto the west side of Shinnecock Inlet.  Equipment including tug boats, barges, and miles of pipe started staging between the bridge and inlet last weekend.  The Illinois, a huge 220 foot long and 67 foot wide cutter suction dredge pulled into the bay on Monday morning.  Besides the equipment in the water, the area near the south parking lot on the inlet is full off additional sections of pipe and heavy equipment to move the sand.  I took the video above and images below on Sunday.  I will follow up with some video of the huge dredge taken Monday evening a little later.
