As a follow up to yesterday’s story about a capsized boat in Moriches Inlet, it turns out the boat was not secured last night in the back side of the inlet.  Last night or this morning it drifted back into the ocean with the outgoing tide and washed up in front of Great Gun Beach, just west of the inlet.

Fisherman Joe Hoffman was there and witnessed an attempt to tow it off the beach that didn’t work out.  The boat lost it’s engine at some point and both sides of the boat were cracked.

I am surprised the authorities didn’t try to secure the boat last night, a submerged boat floating through the inlet could result in another accident.  I had a friend lose a boat in Moriches Inlet that eventually turned up in Cape Cod!
