Remember all the talk about the Polar Vortex?
It seems like a distant memory as we close out a warmer than normal January, but just two years ago we were enduring a brutal stretch of cold weather.
February ended up being even worse but by the end of January it was not only cold enough to freeze the Great South Bay, Fire Island Inlet also clogged with Ice.
The photos below were taken around Robert Moses, Captree and Fire Island Inlet Bridge 1-31-15.
The video on the bottom shows the incoming tide pushing ice back into the bay from the mouth of Fire Island Inlet.
