For the fourth time this fall, Southampton Town has declared a state of emergency on Dune Road in Hampton Bays, east of the Ponquogue Bridge.   Storm surf generated from another offshore storm wiped out the temporary dune that was recently built, leaving a 200-foot long hole in front of the commercial dock and flooding the road and covering it with sand this morning.

The new sand that was placed on the east end of the beach by the ongoing dredging operation was able to protect the area in front of the restaurants.  The dredging operation has shut down until the surf calms down.

My friend Bowman Prendergast took the drone video above this afternoon despite the gusty winds.  You can subscribe to his YouTube channel here.   Thanks Bowman!
