The Long Island Wildlife Photography group had another fantastic week and with help from Jim Botta, we have 9 pages of some of the best images and videos below. Some highlights this week include a Pied- Billed Grebe, Nothern Harrier (Gray Ghost), Western Kingbirds, Hairy Woodpecker, Piebald Deer, Leucistic Grackle, and a Brown Pelican.
Now that we have our first real cold weather of the season, we should be on the lookout for cold-stunned Sea Turtles. Cold stunning may lead to shock, pneumonia, frostbite, and potentially death. Gail Luberda reported the Turtle below and it was apparently rescued. If you run into a cold-stunned Turtle there are several groups that can respond including the NY Marine Rescue Center and the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society. They both share the same stranding hotline number: 631-369-9829
This week’s cover shot goes to Dan Fiore with a fantastic shot of a group of Red Breasted Mergansers taking off. If you have a few minutes try to check out all 9 pages including some more great videos from Natalie Ann on the last page!
