Sunday was in my opinion one of the nicest days of the year on the Great South Bay.   I used the weather as an opportunity to get a good look at the Old Inlet after both Hurricane Jose and Hurricane Maria brought some of the biggest surf and highest tides of the year.

Ever since it opened 5 years ago during Hurricane Sandy, Old Inlet is constantly evolving and providing a real-time study of the power of water over a barrier beach system.

Dr. Flagg of Stony Brook and his team have been monitoring the inlet since the day it formed and have compiled an amazing set of data and images on his Great South Bay Project website.

I uploaded a bunch of images on Monday, if you missed that click here.

Fire Island and Beyond has built up a sizeable library of stories, videos and slideshows as Old Inlet has evolved.   Simply type Old Inlet into the search bar on the top menu to bring up 9 pages of content.
