Greater Scaup breed on the tundra and Boreal Forest zones from Iceland across northern Scandinavia, northern Russia, northern Siberia and the western North American Arctic. Every winter I see a few large flocks around the Great South Bay.
I heard some hunters around so expected them to flush, when the group is in flight it is an amazing thing to see and hear.
