People are still assessing the damage from what became Tropical Storm Melissa. Captain Mike Patrick took the photos below yesterday at Ocean Bay Park and Seaview. As you can see, many of the stairs down to the beach were ripped out and the loss of sand exposed bags that were placed to secure the beach after Hurricane Sandy. Luckily the dredging and dune restoration project is working on Fire Island Pines now and should start here over the next several weeks.
The damage was not limited to the Oceanside, the last photo is the baywalk in Seaview with about a foot of sand covering the walkway.
