Long Island was under a high wind warning yesterday with gusts forecast up to 60 mph out of the Northwest.

I didn’t have an anemometer but it certainly felt north of 40 mph as I had trouble maintaining my balance standing on the jetty.

One of my favorite spots for to catch big surf is Shinnecock Inlet due to it’s easy access and rock jetties to provide some scale to the waves.

The images below were taken from the west Jetty of Shinnecock, page 2 and 3 have has some images from Ponquogue Beach.  Check out the surfer on page 3 who got beat up for a half hour before finally getting out far enough for a ride.
