We took another aerial look at Old Inlet this past Saturday to look for any changes after subtropical storm Melissa passed by the area with big surf and high tides.    It appears that Melissa did not widen the inlet further and a new spit of sand is once again building on the east side.  If you missed the prior two updates and Dr. Flagg’s latest report from late September click here and here.  You can also see a lot of new overwash with the dunes basically flattened on the west side.  I also included two photos from early last November when it looked like it wanted to close.  Perhaps the tide cycle has something to do with it, but it clearly has much more flow.
