Greaterfireisland.com took a recent tour of the Fire Island Lighthouse, maintained by the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society

We highly recommend it.

After checking out the Museum and gift shop, we entered the base of the 180-foot tower. It’s a pleasant climb up the steel spiral staircase, and the views from the white-trimmed windows are stunning.

The top of the tower offers spectacular views of the Great South Bay, Atlantic Ocean, Fire Island and New York skyline, which is visible to the naked eye to the west.

There are occasional sunset tours available during the summer; check the schedule.

Maybe you’ll see us there!
