One of the coldest days in recent memory was three years ago today.

A fast moving coastal storm dumped around a foot of snow on the South Shore of Long Island and Fire Island and left some extreme cold in it’s wake.

I headed to Smith Point before Dawn to find a surreal scene of fresh snow on the beach, offshore winds, glassy surf and sea smoke rising off the ocean.

Despite the bitter cold and fingers that stopped working it was one of the most beautiful mornings in memory.
