William Floyd Estate to Celebrate 300 Years this Saturday!

July 7, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free
Mastic Beach, NY – On Saturday, July 7 the National Park Service will host a special celebration to honor the 300th anniversary of the purchase of the William Floyd Estate property. All are invited to celebrate the Estate’s history with music, light refreshments, and tours of the historic Old Mastic House.

The July 7 celebration kicks off at 11:00 AM with the unveiling of a new historic marker procured by the Narrow Bay Historical Society. Music by Sampawans Creek and cake and refreshments on the front porch will follow at noon.

A new exhibit, “A Celebration of 300 Years,” may be viewed throughout the day on regularly scheduled Old Mastic House tours. The exhibit includes some never-before-seen items, like the original Floyd Farm deed from 1718 and offers a glimpse of the Floyd Family’s life at Old Mastic.

In 1718, the original property, encompassing 4,400 acres, was purchased by Richard Floyd, Jr. Visitors to the Estate can enjoy 613 acres of the original property and the ancestral home of William Floyd, one of the four New York signers of the Declaration of Independence. Nine generations of the Floyd family lived at the site until 1976, when Cornelia Floyd Nichols donated it to the National Park Service.

The William Floyd Estate, which was authorized as an addition to Fire Island National Seashore, is located in Mastic Beach on the mainland of Long Island. The Estate is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Friday through Sunday and holidays through November 11, 2018. Visitors can explore the grounds, including twelve outbuildings, the family cemetery, and 613 acres of forest, fields, marsh, and trails. Old Mastic House Tours are offered every 30 minutes from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and  special events and programs are scheduled throughout the summer and fall.
