The Long Island Sun Chasers just wrapped up another amazing year of capturing images from every corner of our island and making great friends along the way.   You will not meet more friendly and dedicated group of people anywhere.  If you see several people together around sunrise or sunset anywhere on Long Island  there is a good chance they are part of the group.  If you see thirty or forty people with tripods and cameras at Robert Moses or Smith Point it is guaranteed to be the sun chasers.  The last photo on page 5 by Fred Greco is a group shot at Robert Moses Field 5 on New Years Day.

I put the first best of LISC together back in August 2016 when the group only had 1000 members.  The first installment was only 13 shots and only took about 10 minutes to put together.  I figured it would be a nice quick weekly feature that I could just slap together on Thursday evening to publish on Friday.  Little did I know that the group would explode with members and talent, becoming a much bigger project making it tough to get it out every week.   Click here to check out the entire collection of about 100 that covers just about every scenic spot on Long Island by now.  I guess I could keep it simple and leave it at only 10-15 shots but with the amount of incredible images posted each day I could never do it justice.  As it is, the 50 or so images below are just a fraction of what has been posted in the last few weeks and I know I overlook some great ones.

So far this winter has been disappointing with no ice or snow but the photos below still capture Long Island in it’s best light.  Many of the photographers in the group print their work, so if you see something that catches your eye let me know and I can put you in touch with the photographer for something to hang in  your home or office.

This week’s cover shot goes to Jim Simpson with an awesome scene at dawn from Brookhaven.  Jim is one of the earliest members and is known for being up earlier than everyone else too.  Jim also sends in videos to the Fire island and Beyond Facebook page on a regular basis.  I also attached a natural sound video of sunrise from Smith Point on page 5 as well.

Have a great weekend!
