Summer arrived in a hurry earlier this week with a few days of record temps and some of the longest days of the year.  In fact, daylight is maxing out right now at 15 hours and 7 minutes which will start shortening after the Summer Solstice on the 21st.  You will notice an inordinate amount of shots from the North Shore this week, as both the sunrise and sunset are directly over the sound.  South Shore people have to get over to Fire Island and look back over the bay to get anything.

There are many apps that can put a photographer in the precise spot and time to catch the Sun and Moon in their best light.  I personally use Lightrac which allows you plan ahead and get in the best position.  As you can see below the North Shore has all the action now.

Six months from now it will be the opposite with both sunrise and sunset over the Ocean.

Getting to this weeks images by the Long Island Sun Chasers, this week had everything covered from Montauk Point and Orient to the East all the way back to Woodmere in the West with  a lot in between.

This week’s cover shot is from Kathleen Desiderio with a very nice sunset from Cedar Beach.

Enjoy your weekend and be nice to all the Fathers out there!
