The custom hand crafted sign that was stolen from Ho-Hum Beach was safely returned last night and found this morning on a table in the snack bar building.

The story, first reported here on June 6th, was eventually picked up by Newsday, ensuring that whoever stole the sign might not be comfortable holding on to it.

Bellport Village Trustee Steve Mackin sent me the photo below and tells me village workers have secured the sign and plan to return it to where it belongs, greeting visitors arriving at the marina.

The sign looks to be in good condition with only a small chip off the bottom.

In my opinion the village handled this perfectly by not involving the police and counting on the community to get the word out.
