Late one night a few years ago I decided to start a new page on Facebook called Long Island Wildlife Photography.

Little did I know how many great wildlife photographers would join and start sharing their wealth of knowledge with the rest of us.

The group is open to beginners as well; it is great to watch people improve with a little experience.

I also met a bunch of great people that I can now call friends.

I want to thank the other administrators that help keep things running smoothly: Grace Scalzo, Mike Firestone, Brian Carr, Paul Peluso, Trish Minogue Collins, Ed Walsh, Lynda Wagner, Robert Taylor, and Craig Alexander.

The group is now almost 7000 strong and sharing spectacular images on a daily basis.

If you haven’t already I suggest joining the group, grabbing a camera and get out for some fresh air!

The following set of images (Part I) is just a small sample of some of the best captures of the year.

Brian Carr | Immature Bald Eagle

Lisa Nasta | Sharp Shinned Hawk

Lisa Nadler Reischer | Common Terns

Kirk Hatzmann | Indigo Bunting

Kerry Lukowski | Snow Bunting

Keith Krejci Short Eared Owl

John Giglio Bald Eagle
